Dear fellow shoppers

Dear miscellaneous people at the grocery store,

I have a slight issue with all of you - ok, most of you.

Let's get something straight - I am not 16 (but thank you for suggesting that I am) and yes all four of my kids belong to me and my husband.  Yeppers, a traditional family.  You look at me and gawk as if you have never seen a family with such copious amounts of children, yet I know that you undeniably have.

Also, I would much rather you reply to my children saying hi at least 23 gazillion million quadrillion times to you than have you inform me that I "have a cart load."  Yes, I know it's shocking, but I am quite aware of the 150 pounds of children that I have just pushed across an entire parking lot (through snow, mind you) to buy 6 things.  Yes, six things.  If you would like for my children to look at me with their cherub faces and say, "Wow he/she was very nice," then please respond.  However, if you only tell me the obvious that we are all very much aware of and neglect to be kind to my children, they will indeed look at me with their little cherub faces and say, "Wow Mama, that person was not very nice...they were rude."

My kids call it as they see it...so do I suppose - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Additionally, I agree with you on this point:  Loud, obnoxious children screaming for things are just that:  Loud and obnoxious.  However, children who are happy and laughing in a controlled environment (such as the entirely too large grocery CAR that I am pushing with all 4 of my kids in it) are happy and laughing.  If you are miserable and can't handle people being positive about life - I am sorry.  I hope you find happiness, however we will not allow your bad attitude to effect ours. So your dirty looks will not make my children be less happy because at this point they still assume that ALL people are as happy as they are.

One last thing...when you see me struggling to push my HUGE LOAD as you put it through the parking lot - I would much appreciate it if instead of staring at me and just watching me struggle, you jump in and help me.

And to the one woman who did just that today with a smile - my kids are still talking about how kind you are.  Thank you.

Sincerely,
Melissa
(You know, that lady with "Quite the cart full")

Oh Melissa,

The one I hear most is: 'Oooh, you have your hands full'...Grrrr.....

Your children look adorable in that photo.

Amen sister. I have three kiddos and I get that ALL the time, it's quite annoying. Good for you! If they are too rude to not say hello to a child, but can take the time to make stupid and ignorant comments, then to heck with them :-)

MommaResa

Oh man. I'm jealous! Happy laughing children?

I can barely (read:NEVER) get my 2 year old to laugh at the store. Lucky you, on having four kids and that they know how happy life should be.

I'm totally following you (Not to mention I'm from the Monday Mingle)

Martha A.

And for me....the you have your hands full is usually followed by "Are you trying for a girl?"

Oh wow - people can be so rude, right? When I see a mom with 4 kids (if they are happy) I smile and tell her, "Wow, I really hope I have 4 some day too!" - I think it's great. Since I started having kids late, I might only make it to 3. Maybe only 2. Lord knows. But I hope my "cartful" is happy! :)
Following you back from ... um... whatever blog hop I was on! :) Sorry - busy day! :)

Hi there! Thanks for the follow and I'm following you back! Great post! Oh how I would love to write letters like that to the people at the grocery store, the mall, the post office, the dr. office, etc. lol

My mom once had a T-shirt custom printed for me that read "I already know I have my hands full. You don't really need to say anything."

following you back from thebabybottomline.com :) - your follow didn't come through :(

This was spot on. I have three kids and people still sometimes look at us like we are just taking up way to much space in line. My youngest is also adopted so that adds a whole other dimensions to peoples rudeness. But I digress...

Love your blog! Thanks for stopping by my place and following. I'm following you back and enjoying it :)

Me, too! I had four kids in 5 1/2 years. I was amazed at how offensive people could be. Tsk, tsk.

I totally hear ya. I hate when my daughter says hi to people at the grocery store and they ignore her. I'm sure they wouldn't ignore an adult's greeting, so why treat small children so rudely? And the same goes for grouches who are annoyed by well-behaved and happy children. People are so rude.

Anyway, I'm following from Kristin's Thanksgiving blog hop. I like your blog!

I am with you on this one. I'm from a rather large family and have grown up hearing all this stuff. The one thing that really upset me is when my children were little an elderly woman approached me and told me I had cute kids. She also thought I was babysitting them. She then yelled at me and told me I was to young to be having children. I was so hurt that I went home crying. I don't mind people saying what they have to but think of the damage you may do to the person your saying it to.
I also wanted to say Thank You for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower. I am now following you and look forward to more of your posts.

I only have 2 kids but I still totally agree with you! The people that just stand there and watch you struggle to get a door open (or even worse, walk through in front of you and let it slam shut in front of your stroller) are clearly just oblivious... or rude. Your children are adorable!

Thanks for stopping by, I'm following!

Hi! Thanks for following :) Followed you back :)

You just need to have two more kids. Then when people say you have a handful you can say "No, it's more than one hand full." And by that time you should look old enough that people don't think you are your children's babysitter.

;)

From someone who has been there, done that and is only two steps (and another cart) ahead of you.

Follwing you from the Tuesday blog hop... ignore the gawking fools and enjoy your beautiful children and their fun company.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I loved reading your letter. One of my best friends has four kids and I know she appreciates all the help anyone wants to give. =)

Happy Thanksgiving.

Awww! That's so cute! I hate when people would much rather stare with that preposterous look on their face. You have 2 hand and with my kids I have none free so lend a hand! LOL

Thank you so much for stopping by! I'm following you back! :)
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

Thanks for hopping on over. I am your newest follower. Yes, I love these experiences, I remember them from restaurants and airplanes especially! Hopefully I will never become like that!!! Have a lovely Thanksgiving.

Great post! Although, there were times before I had kids when I might have given a side eye to "loud, obnxious kids". I know better now, though. ;-) I would have helped you, though, even back then.

Thanks for stopping by last weekend for Relax & Surf Sunday. I am following you back. Your blog is absolutely adorable, as are your children. Happy Thanksgiving!

Sofia's Ideas

Thats fantastic! I have a post that starts in a similar way - people are always asking me if they're all (5) mine, and if they have the same father, and how old I am! I even had someone ask me if I was a child bride! In front of my kids!

Anyway, hope you are enjoying your holiday and that I'll see you back on Sofia's Ideas really soon! :)
